Marilyn married Aldo Corrado Sirugo in Rome, Italy, on February 18, 1951. They had two wedding ceremonies as Marilyn was not an Italian citizen. They first had a civil ceremony, then a church ceremony. Marilyn's mother, Beatrice Rose Snyder, made her dress and accompanied Marilyn to Rome for the nuptials. After the wedding, Aldo, Marilyn, and Beatrice traveled to Sicily for the honeymoon. Marilyn and Beatrice returned to the United States while Aldo waited for a travel visa. In the interim, Marilyn completed her Bachelor's degree at Carleton College, graduating in June of 1951. Aldo arrived in the United States in August of 1951.
